260 N. Josephine St.
Elevation Development Group broke ground in mid-July for a six-story project in Cherry Creek North. The building is set to be 70,000 square feet of mixed use space including retail and office spaces. Elevation is based in Denver.
201 Garfield St.
A vacant plot of land was scooped up by Iconic Investments, which plans on building a new apartment complex. According to the Colorado Real Estate Journal, the plans include three buildings with a total of 26 units. Each building will also have several parking spaces. The plot of land is just over 37,000 square feet.
The fast-food chicken restaurant opened its third location near the University of Denver at 1535 E. Evans Ave. in August. The first location opened in Five Points, followed by a location inside the Whole Foods next to Union Station downtown.
Instead of ordering meals from staff as in a traditional fast-food restaurant, customers use a kiosk to place their orders. The new location is also the first to feature a drive-thru.
The restaurant offers menu options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The DU location is only serving lunch and dinner, but Birdcall’s website says it will be expanding to breakfast soon.
The vegan burger restaurant opened in early August at 7950 E. Mississippi Ave. The restaurant offers all the classics of American diners including hot dogs, burgers, bacon as well as mac and cheese, all made with non-meat substitutes. The burgers are made from ground soy, the cheese sauce from an eggplant base and the ice cream from soy.
According to the website, Meta Burger’s founders Matt Coates and Michael Reeves met at Native Foods Cafe, a vegan restaurant chain. The pair worked at Native Foods in Boulder.
Dos Luces opened at 1236 S. Broadway in the Baker neighborhood in late July. The brewery makes chicha and pulque, beers traditionally made of fermented corn in South America. Owner and brewer Judd Belstock said he wanted to make unique beers that you can’t find anywhere else in Denver. He previously worked at MillerCoors and Boulder Beer.
Belstock tweaked the recipes for both styles of beers. Traditionally, chicha was made by chewing the corn. Belstock will malt it instead.
The podcast launched in April this year, helmed by Nate Abercrombie, a former equity researcher with Janus Henderson Investors. Abercrombie interviews management teams from companies about the financial outlook of the business. The podcast is meant to be informational for people looking into the world of investing.
“I’m trying to provide content for investors that they don’t have anywhere else,” Abercrombie said.
Right now the most difficult part is finding companies willing to participate in interviews. So far, 13 episodes are vailable online: www.investingwiththebuyside.com. Each episode runs about an hour, and includes an introduction on the company before the interview.
The most popular episodes are close to 1,000 downloads. Eventually, Abercrombie said he would like to receive advertising revenue from the podcast, but individual episodes need to hit 10,000 downloads before that can happen.
After more than 40 years on South Broadway, Famous Pizza has closed. In the summer of 2017, news outlets announced the restaurant would be closing after its building at 98 S. Broadway sold to new owners. Instead, the restaurant hung on, paying a month-to-month lease until the building’s owner was able to secure new tenants.
A staff member at Famous Pizza confirmed with the Washington Park Profile that the last week of August was the last time the restaurant would open its doors.
The restaurant sat on the corner of Bayaud Avenue and Broadway and shared a building with a barber shop and street taco restaurant. The owners of those businesses announced their closures due to a rent increase at the end of July.
Cherry Creek Dermatology
The 30-year-old dermatology office was recently acquired by Epiphany Dermatology of Austin, Texas. The office is at 3773 Cherry Creek N. Drive, Suite 970. The doctors at Cherry Creek Dermatology, including its founder Dr. J. Michael Maloney, will remain on staff, according to a news release.
Maloney said the acquisition would help “expand our ability to provide for the dermatologic needs of our community” through resources at Epiphany, such as tech support.
This is the first office in Colorado for Epiphany, which operates dermatology offices in six other states, including its home state of Texas.
The Washington Park restaurant completed its remodel and reopened its doors to customers in early August. Fooducopia is located at 1939 E. Kentucky Ave.
The restaurant focuses on sourcing its food from local and organic farms from Colorado. According to its website, Fooducopia has a 26-acre farm as well. A list of producers the restaurant uses can also be found online.
Fooducopia serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and also has a wine and cocktail menu.
