State Rep. Susan Beckman has resigned to take a position with the Trump administration, according to a spokesman for the Colorado House Republicans.
Beckman could not immediately be reached for comment. It was not immediately known what position she would be taking with the administration.
A GOP vacancy committee will be responsible for filling the state House post that Beckman has left, but details were not immediately available.
On Twitter, state Rep. Patrick Neville, R-Castle Rock, called the move a “huge loss for us but a huge gain for the country.”
Beckman, R-Littleton, was elected to the state House District 38 seat in 2016 and reelected in 2018.
She succeeded Republican Kathleen Conti, who ran for and was elected to the Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners.
Beckman served on the Board of Arapahoe County Commissioners from 2001-13. From 1999-2001, she was a member of Littleton City Council.
Beckman's campaign had already raised $12,708 in her bid for a third term in the House. A pair of Democratic candidates, however, have raised a combined $41,000.
HD 38 was one of the area's most competitive districts in 2018, with Beckman defeating Democrat Chris Kolker 50.4% to 49.6%.
The district includes most of Littleton and part of west Centennial, among other areas.
